Kingsbrook – Protecting your community – Volunteers required

by Dean Crofts on 2 January, 2017

Are you a member of a Neighbourhood Watch Group? Would you like to become more involved in the Kingsbrook community? Do you care and what to make a difference regarding speeding cars in Kingsbrook ?

With budgets for policing ever tightening, community involvement and help in reporting crime and keeping neighbourhoods safe has an important part to play in keeping crime down.

If your area does not have a neighbourhood watch scheme then setting up such a scheme means that your area is less likely to be targeted by burglars.

To find out more about your local group, visit the OurWatch website: www.ourwatch.org.uk

Street Watch is a police-led volunteer scheme that operates across Bedfordshire and enables local residents to promote good citizenship by patrolling their own streets.

Volunteers commit two hours every month to patrol, increasing feelings of safety by promoting a sense of security and community spirit and appropriately engaging in local issues that matter most to their communities.

Speed Watch is also a police-led volunteer scheme which enables volunteers to work within their community to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding and to help control the problem locally.

The scheme can be set up in Kingsbrook governed by a 20/30/40 miles per hour speed limit. When a group runs a Speed Watch session they note the date, time, colour, make, model and registration number of any vehicles exceeding the speed limit. The results are forwarded to the force who will write to the registered keeper of the vehicle informing them that the vehicle was detected exceeding the speed limit, giving the location, date and time. Persistent speeders will receive a second letter but on the third occasion they can expect further action to be taken by the police.
