Council nominated for Keep Britain Tidy Awards

Bedford Borough Council Community Engagement has been shortlisted in Keep Britain Tidy’s annual awards.

The awards celebrate the very best councils, those who are making significant improvements to the environment on people’s doorstep.

The Council’s Community Volunteers gave over 11,500 hours of their time to support our local parks and open spaces last year. Tasks have included helping at events, working in our parks alongside the Council’s Country Park Officers, enhancing our beautiful local nature, and making a real difference in their own communities by litter picking and reporting issues.

Mayor Dave Hodgson said “It is fantastic news that the Council’s Community Engagement work has been recognised, being shortlisted for this national award by Keep Britain Tidy. This recognition would not have been possible without the ongoing commitment of our fantastic volunteers within the Parks and Open Spaces Team, who took part in over 2,700 community volunteer sessions and events last year.

“Whether volunteering in local parks and greenspaces, carrying out litter picks, or helping with local enhancement projects, we cannot thank you enough for taking the time to make an incredible difference.”
